In addition to writing some news of its own, E3 was recently profiled in E&E News for its recent grid decarbonization analysis for California, New England, and other US regions. The profile highlights many of E3’s recent accomplishments as well as the challenges that E3 and its clients face trying to analyze the uncertainties of the future. E3’s Arne Olson was interviewed for the article and is quoted throughout as he explains E3’s approach to modeling the clean energy future. Ultimately, as Arne explains, E3 is “really trying to understand what resources are needed to maintain reliable electricity service under a deeply carbonized power system.” This question – how can different jurisdictions achieve their clean energy goals in a reliable and cost-effective manner – is the driver for much of E3’s analysis and a key imperative that guides our analysis.
